What will you do?
A few years ago six girls got in a fight in Indiana. At one point the fight was 5 on 1, with one girl grabbing rocks from the ground and beating the victim in the head. We know this because at least three adults stood by and recorded it all on their cell phones. None of them tried to stop the fight or call the police.
In the short book of Obadiah, God condemns the nation of Edom for just standing around and doing nothing while Israel gets conquered again and again. What can we learn from this? It’s easy to do nothing. In fact, psychologists have called this phenomenon “Bystander Effect.” People would rather do nothing than risk involvement.
This Sunday, November 1, is Missions Day at Faith Baptist Church. We will hear from some of our missionaries and be challenged to get involved in worldwide missions. My sermon is simply called “Do Something.” People around the world need the Gospel of Jesus Christ but many do nothing. Each of us can do something. I’ve discovered five things we can do for missions from Matthew 9:36-39.
Nobody can do everything. But everyone can do something.
We will have one service at 10:30 a.m. and a mask-only service at noon. For more information about our reconnecting guidelines, visit RECONNECT.
